November 3, 2018 – Danville, Kentucky – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center (EMRMC) is pleased to recognize and honor one of its nurses for his extraordinary patient care. Billy Dengel, RN, a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, was one of many nurses nominated for the DAISY Award. A resident of Taylor County, Billy has been caring for patients at EMRMC for three years.
He was nominated by a patient’s family member that said, “We are currently in our twelfth day as a patient at Ephraim McDowell Hospital as the result of a return to the hospital regarding a failed attempt of a heart surgery procedure at a hospital in a larger city nearby. As a family, we understand that the remaining days of our father are indeed limited. We have experienced working with probably upwards of 25 different nurses in the last two weeks on multiple floors of the hospital. Billy, in the ICU unit, without a doubt redefines what it means to be a caring and compassionate individual with a passion for nursing excellence. Billy serves as a reminder of the humanity in all of us. Billy is extremely patient centered. He is a man of integrity who takes his work seriously. Perhaps his most amazing skill as a nurse, beyond his medical training, is his ability as a critical thinker. He was quickly able to address the needs of our father on a professional and personal level. The therapeutic touch that Billy possesses is a gift. The hospital is extremely fortunate to have an individual such as Billy on their staff. He certainly goes above and beyond constantly. Our father is better, if but for a short time, as the result of the outstanding care of nurse Billy. Billy understands his professional career gift in his understanding of the meaning of life and that his daily purpose is to give it away. Thanks Billy for the opportunity of our family to be in your caring hands.”
