March 22, 2019 – Danville, Kentucky – Once again, McDowell Wellness Center is collaborating with local businesses to challenge area residents to improve their health by increasing their physical activity. This is the 9th season that McDowell Wellness Center will offer a free 8-week Get Moving Challenge. The challenge will begin on Sunday, April 14th with a kick-off event at Weisiger Park in front of the Boyle County Courthouse. Join the fun beginning at 2 p.m.
The Challenge this spring will feature Historically Bold Walks, the first of which is the “City of Firsts Walk” at the kick-off event. The walk will be preceded by brief talks about our “Firsts” by Mary Girard from the Boyle County Library and Ephraim McDowell Health CEO, Dan McKay. City Commissioner Rick Serres will also lead his Tour D’Ville bike ride and Ann Mosley can get you moving with some Zumba and Rumble. Participants may register for Get Moving and pick up their packets with instructions and exercise log at the event. Everyone who participates in the kick-off event will receive a free Get Moving tote and be added to a grand prize drawing.
During the 8-week Get Moving Challenge, participants are encouraged to increase and record their cardio-type physical activity such as walking, running, biking, swimming, and exercise classes such as Zumba and RIPPED. When they submit their minutes of activity each week, they are eligible to win prizes in weekly random drawings. Those who submit minutes for at least seven weeks will receive a free Get Moving t-shirt. Participants will receive a weekly email newsletter providing useful tips, health information, recipes, etc. This will also be available in hard copy at McDowell Wellness Center.
In addition to the Historically Bold Walks, this Spring Challenge will offer a 50/50 Challenge to encourage participation in 50 group fitness classes in 50 days. McDowell Wellness Center will offer free fitness classes for the 8 weeks to enable people to meet the challenge. All who obtain the 50/50 will receive a free 50/50 t-shirt or tank.
Many local businesses have pledged their support for the Get Moving Challenge by encouraging their employees to participate and by donating prizes to be given to participants.
