Ephraim McDowell Rehabilitation is hosting an amputee walking school at McDowell Wellness Center, located at 1107 Ben Ali Drive in Danville, on Saturday March 28. The clinic will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m.
The clinic is being offered by Kenney Orthopedics and will introduce treatment approaches for improved function and return to a more active lifestyle with increased independence. Understanding the dynamics of prosthetic devices and how to properly control them will enable individuals to walk/run, move side to side, bend down, jump and climb stairs with more confidence. Techniques introduced will increase strength and flexibility helping participants operate more efficiently and safely. One-on-one opportunities and hands-on participation techniques will apply.
The clinic is free to amputees of all ages and their family members. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Professionals in the field of rehabilitative therapy and sport can attend and earn five CEU’s ($50). They will receive high level training in advanced exercises appropriate for use with participants of all ages to improve ambulation.
