McDowell Place of Danville commemorates National Assisted Living Week®

A weeklong celebration kicks off this Sunday, September 8, and McDowell Place is joining tens of thousands of assisted living communities across the country for the festivities. National Assisted Living Week® continues through Saturday, September 14, and McDowell Place honors this year’s theme, “Inspiring Generations.” 

“This year’s National Assisted Living Week is a special time to recognize and thank those who truly make communities across the country a loving home,” said Susan Matherly, system director of McDowell Place of Danville. “‘Inspiring Generations’ is a fantastic opportunity for local communities to celebrate the individuals who live and work in assisted living. It is vital to take this special time to learn more about this important part of long term care and the important role it plays.”

Activities offered this week at McDowell Place of Danville include:

  • Frank Lawson Memorial Cruise-In on September 8, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Proceeds benefit Walk to End Alzheimer’s Team.
  • Homesteaders Homeschool students to visit for story hour with residents on Monday, September 9 at 1:30 p.m.
  • Gospel Music with Lexington Ave. Quartet on Tuesday, September 9 at 6:30 p.m.
  • 7 McDowell Place Wii Bowling Teams will participate in the National Senior League Wii Bowling Fall Tournament which begins on September 9.
  • Bryan Bush, Park Manager Perryville Battlefield will be presenting “The History of Perryville Battlefield” on September 11 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Operation Mail Call – Residents and staff will be making handmade cards on September 12 at 10:30 a.m. for our troops who are deployed overseas.
  • Opening Act theatre group will be performing on Saturday, September 14, time to be announced
  • Staff/Resident Arts and Crafts Exhibit will be displayed all week.
