Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital (EMJBHH) is pleased to recognize and honor one of its nurses for her extraordinary patient care. Carla Medley, L.P.N., in the Acute Care Department at EMJBHH, was one of many nurses nominated for the DAISY Award. A resident of Mercer County, Carla has been caring for patients for 15 years at EMJBHH.
She was nominated for the award by a patient’s family member that said, “Carla was the night nurse when my mother was in the Swing Bed section at Haggin Hospital. My mother was admitted for rehab from a stroke and Carla suspected that my mother had a urinary tract infection (UTI). Due to Carla’s keen observance, my mother was tested and sure enough, she had a UTI for which she was treated with IV’s immediately. In the past, my 98-year-old mother has had UTI’s and becomes confused and unable to speak. These symptoms can be mistaken for post stroke symptoms, but thanks to Carla’s training and experience, we were able to get the UTI under control and continue my mom’s rehab. Carla also was very prompt to my mother’s call button and very attentive to my mom’s needs. Her calm and caring demeanor gave my mother confidence in her treatment and hospital stay. I can honestly say the whole staff at Haggin was excellent, but Carla was a stand out.”
Ephraim McDowell is proud to recognize nurses with the DAISY Award, a national program that honors the compassionate care and clinical excellence that nurses bring to their patients every day. Nomination forms for the DAISY Award are available at various locations throughout Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital, Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital and other Ephraim McDowell facilities.
