Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center earned an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a prestigious independent national nonprofit organization dedicated to creating transparency on quality scores that focuses on increasing patient safety in healthcare. Leapfrog assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to hospitals across the country using an evidence-based framework focused exclusively on the patient-family experience, patient injuries and healthcare-associated infections.
“At Ephraim McDowell Health, patient safety is at the heart of everything we do,” says Dan McKay, president & CEO of Ephraim McDowell Health. “Earning an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group reinforces our promise to our community that they can trust us to deliver care in the safest possible environment. I’m incredibly proud of our team for consistently putting patients first.”
“An ‘A’ Grade is a strong sign that Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center is deeply committed to protecting patients from harm,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“Earning the Leapfrog ‘A’ grade is a direct result of our commitment to improving clinical outcomes and the Quality and Experience goals set forth in our strategic plan,” says Jason Dean, vice president of Quality/Risk, Ephraim McDowell Health. “By standardizing our safety protocols and utilizing evidence-based practices to prevent hospital infections and unintended patient harm, we have ensured that patient safety remains consistent across our hospitals. This achievement reflects the daily discipline of our Associates and providers who ensure that every patient receives the safest care possible.”
