Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Nurse Recognized as DAISY Nurse Leader

Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center (EMRMC) is pleased to recognize and honor a DAISY Nurse Leader. Melissa Brown, RN, Assistant Director of Surgical Services, was one of many nurse leaders nominated for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. She is a resident of Casey County and has been caring for patients at EMRMC for 29 years.

Melissa was nominated by several coworkers and one of them said, “Melissa is essentially the glue that holds us together as a unit. She has an unwavering loyalty to us as staff and always stands up for us. There are no moments in which she makes us feel that we cannot come to her with issues and be heard. She reminds me, as well as other staff often of how much she appreciates us and the difference we make in our patients care and for the unit. Melissa is more than just a leader, she listens to her staff and provides us with a level of consistency and someone being “there” for us. I have been in surgery for 10 years this year and can say without a doubt that Melissa is one of the ones who keeps her staff here, and grounded. She doesn’t skip a beat when the unit needs her, whether it is coming to the back to place an IV, or to help with a code or trauma. The leadership that Melissa provides the unit keeps us all going and striving to do better.”

Ephraim McDowell is proud to recognize nurses with the DAISY Award, a national program that honors the compassionate care and clinical excellence that nurses bring to their patients every day, as well as the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Nomination forms for the DAISY Award are available at various locations throughout Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital, Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital and other Ephraim McDowell facilities.
