Ephraim McDowell Health (EMH) has made a significant investment in advanced cancer care technology with the addition of a PET scanner at the Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center in Danville.
A PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scan is an imaging test that helps physicians see how organs and tissues are functioning inside the body. Unlike traditional imaging, a PET scan can detect changes at the cellular level, allowing providers to identify cancer earlier, evaluate how well treatment is working, and make more informed care decisions.
By offering this service locally on a full-time basis, Ephraim McDowell Health is significantly expanding access to advanced diagnostic care for patients throughout the region. The availability of this technology close to home reduces the burden of travel, making it easier for patients and their families to receive timely, high-quality cancer care when they need it. This enhanced access helps ensure more patients can benefit from advanced diagnostic services within their own community, improving convenience and supporting better continuity of care.
This investment reflects Ephraim McDowell Health’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to leading-edge services and improving the health of the communities it serves.
