Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation Invites Community to Support Cancer Patients Close to Home

This October, the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation is recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month by bringing the community together to support patients receiving cancer care close to home while also highlighting mammography services available throughout the region.

Each Saturday in October from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Foundation will be set up at Kroger in Danville collecting monetary and in-kind donations to benefit the Foundation’s Cancer Initiatives Fund and patients receiving care at the Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center.

Patients from eight counties throughout the surrounding region come to the Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center for cancer treatment and services. Through its Cancer Initiatives Fund, the Foundation works to provide additional resources and support for patients receiving that care right here in their community.

“When you give to our Cancer Initiatives Fund, those dollars stay right here in our community,” said Brandie James, Philanthropy Coordinator for the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation. “The patients coming to the Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center are our neighbors, friends, coworkers and family members. We serve patients from eight counties throughout our region, and this campaign gives our community a very simple way to directly support the people receiving cancer care close to home.”

An Easy Way to Make a Local Impact

Community members can make a monetary contribution at the Foundation’s Kroger table or help while completing their regular grocery shopping.

The Foundation is accepting Kroger gas gift cards, individually packaged snacks, bottled water and other individually packaged drinks for patients receiving cancer treatment.

Gas cards can help patients with the transportation expenses that come with traveling to appointments and treatment, while donated snacks and beverages provide practical support and comfort during their care.

Whether someone gives a few dollars, purchases a gas card or simply adds an extra package of snacks or drinks to their grocery cart, the support stays local and benefits patients receiving cancer care in our region.

Mammography Services Close to Home

Breast Cancer Awareness Month also provides an opportunity to highlight the breast cancer screening resources available through Ephraim McDowell Health.

3D digital screening mammography is available at three locations:

Ephraim McDowell Women’s Breast & Health Center
101 Daniel Drive, Second Floor
Danville, KY
Scheduling: 859-239-1282

Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital
464 Linden Avenue
Harrodsburg, KY
Scheduling: 859-733-4810

Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital
110 Metker Trail
Stanford, KY
Scheduling: 606-365-4756

A provider order is required to schedule mammography services. Individuals can speak with their health care provider about breast cancer screening and whether a mammogram is appropriate for them.

Local Gifts. Local Impact.

The Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation’s Cancer Initiatives Fund supports cancer patients and cancer-related needs at the Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center.

For donors, that means a gift made here has an impact here. Funds raised through the campaign remain in the community, helping the Foundation provide resources and support for patients who have chosen to receive their cancer care close to home.

The Foundation invites the community to visit its table at Kroger in Danville every Saturday in October from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Community members can make a financial contribution or donate Kroger gas gift cards, individually packaged snacks, bottled water or other individually packaged drinks.

Together, our community can help care for the people who call our community home.
