Education Assistance Program
We hire the best Associates for the positions we have available. We offer an education assistance program to our Associates who continue their education. As a result, they can continue working while in school. Our education assistance program shows the value we have in our Associates. Components of our education assistance program are listed below.
EMH Health Care Scholarship
This scholarship is available to high school seniors and college students. Students must reside in Boyle, Casey, Garrard, Lincoln, Mercer, and Washington counties. Candidates must be in the top 25% of their class. They must have a minimum ACT score of 21 or SAT score of 1000. In addition, students must be planning to attend a regionally accredited college or university. College students must have completed undergraduate educational requirements. Ephraim McDowell Health must recognize the student’s professional health career program.
This scholarship pays $1,000 directly to the college or university for high school students. It is renewable in the second semester if the recipient earns a 2.5 or higher GPA. The scholarship pays $2,000 directly to the college or university for college students. It is renewable in the second semester if the recipient earns a 3.0 or higher GPA.

- Sherry Colleen Durbin Memorial Scholarship
A Boyle County high school senior may apply. Students must be planning to attend an in-state college or university. They must be planning to study a health care career program recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is a minimum of $500 for one semester. - Anne Byrom Memorial Nursing Scholarship
A high school senior or first-year college student may apply. Students must be from Boyle, Casey, Garrard, Lincoln, Mercer or Washington county. Students must be planning to attend an in-state college or university. They must be planning to study a health care career program recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. Preference will be given to a nursing student. The award is a minimum of $500 for one semester. It is renewable for a second semester if a 2.5 GPA is maintained. - Keith & Vicki A. Darnell Scholarship
A high school senior may apply. Students must be from Boyle, Casey, Garrard, Lincoln, Mercer, or Washington county. Students must be planning to attend an in-state college or university. They must be planning to study a health care career program recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. Students pursuing a BSN degree receive preference. The award is $500 for one semester. - Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Health Care Scholarship
A Boyle County high school senior may apply. Students must be planning to attend an in-state college or university. They must be planning to study a health care career program recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is $1,000 for the first semester. It is renewable for the second semester if the recipient earns a 2.5 or higher GPA. One Danville High School senior and one Boyle County High School senior may receive the award. - Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary Health Care Scholarship
A Lincoln County high school senior may apply. Students must be planning to attend an in-state college or university. They must be planning to study a health care career program recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is $1,000 for the first semester. It is renewable for the second semester if the recipient earns a 2.5 or higher GPA. - Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital Auxiliary Health Care Scholarship
A Mercer County high school senior may apply. Students must be planning to attend an in-state college or university. They must be planning to study a health care career program recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is $500 for the first semester. One Mercer County High School senior and one Burgin Independent High School senior may receive the award. - Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Teen Scholarship
A high school senior participating or participating in the Teen Volunteer Program at EMRMC may apply. Students must be planning to attend an in-state college or university. They must be planning to study a health care career program recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is $500 for one semester. - Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary Teen Scholarship
A high school senior who participates or has participated in the Teen Volunteer Program at Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital may apply. Students must be planning to attend an in-state college or university. They must be planning to study a health care career program recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is $500 for one semester.

Loan Repayment Plan
- Submit an Application for Advance Approval to receive Education Assistance. Do this before enrollment in the area of study.
- All loan payments are paid directly to the lending agency. They will be paid at the University of Kentucky tuition rate. Human Resources must approve in advance. Payments include tuition and laboratory fees only.
- Loan payments must be for an undergraduate or graduate degree. The degree must be from an accredited college or university. In addition, the degree must be in a program of study for a hard-to-fill position.
- We will repay the tuition loans less than 20% or $3,600 per year. This is for full-time Associates based on the University of Kentucky tuition rate. For part-time Associates, the rate is 10% up to $1,800 per year.
- Associates must have completed the 90-day orientation period. In addition, they must have received an acceptable performance summary. They also must work in the position they obtained the degree for.
- Submit a Student Loan Repayment application to your director.
Tuition Reimbursement Program for Hard-to-Fill Positions
- Submit an Application for Advance Approval to receive Education Assistance. Do this before enrollment in the area of study.
- Must be an Associate (full-time and part-time I) in an EMH hard-to-fill position.
- Submit a Tuition Reimbursement form before the beginning of each semester.
- If approved, submit a copy of the paid invoice along with an official transcript at the end of the semester. Turn in your grades within 60 days after the course ends. For undergrad degrees, grades must be “C” or above. For graduate degrees, grades must be “B” or above.
- Must have completed the 90-day orientation period. Must also have an acceptable performance summary.
- You must sign a work repayment agreement.
- Tuition Reimbursement is limited to $5,250 per calendar year for full-time Associates. The limit is $2,625 per calendar year for part-time Associates.
