Ephraim McDowell Health nurse recognized for extraordinary service

Ephraim McDowell Health is pleased to recognize and honor one of its nurses for her extraordinary patient care. Mollee Johnson RN, a nurse who works in Labor & Delivery at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, was one of many nurses nominated for the DAISY Award. A resident of Boyle County, Mollee has been caring for patients at Ephraim McDowell for 14 years.

She was nominated by a patient at Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital who said, “There was a member of the nursing staff during my delivery that stood out so much that I felt compelled to nominate her for this award. Mollee Johnson was the nurse assigned to me when I arrived on the floor. She was with me from the beginning until I delivered. When I first arrived, she introduced herself and educated me on all my options for the birth, she then asked me my plans for the delivery. When I communicated my wish for an epidural and my goal of reaching 6 cm dilation as it was my personal belief that getting the epidural would slow down my delivery, she said we would do everything to get me there that we could think of. I had a hard time getting dilated due to the placement of my daughter. She had a variety of ideas that she believed might help my body advance. We used several items including walking, a peanut ball and different seating positions to achieve dilation. After several hours when I had not progressed, we tried a new position and from that point on everything progressed quickly. After several good contractions I let Mollee know I was ready for pain medication. Everything happened very quickly, I was in so much pain I threw up all over the room and Mollee. She assured me that everything was fine and not to worry as she held me, while they put in the epidural. She then cleaned the room like it was nothing. She talked to me and rubbed my head and face. She was kind to my guests and communicated everything to them throughout the delivery to ease their anxiety. Overall, I am still in awe of her and her deep caring attitude, knowledge and excellence.”

Ephraim McDowell is proud to recognize nurses with the DAISY Award, a national program that honors the compassionate care and clinical excellence that nurses bring to their patients every day. Nomination forms for the DAISY Award are available at various locations throughout Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital, Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital and other Ephraim McDowell facilities.
