Your nurse or patient care tech will perform hourly rounding during your hospital stay. We do this at each of our hospitals – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital, and Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital. Hourly rounding means the nurse or patient care tech will come to your room every hour. At that time, they will assess your pain and assist you with your bathroom needs. They can also assist in your positioning needs and make sure that items you may need are within reach. They will also assist with anything else you may need.
During the night, your nurse or patient care tech will continue checking on you hourly. They will try to avoid waking you up except when your vital signs need to be assessed.
We perform hourly rounding on patients because it lets them and their families know how much we care about them. We believe it improves the patient’s experience because it decreases their anxiety. In addition, it improves patient outcomes because the needs of the patient are addressed proactively. It can also reduce patient falls, call lights, and pressure ulcers. As a result, patient safety is enhanced.
