Nurse recognized for extraordinary service

Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center (EMRMC) is pleased to recognize and honor one of its nurses for her extraordinary patient care.  Donna Russell, a nurse in the Behavioral Medicine Unit at EMRMC, was one of many nurses nominated for the DAISY Award.  A resident of Boyle County, Donna has been caring for patients at EMRMC for 13 years.

She was nominated by a patient.  The patient said, “I was going to be discharged from the hospital and Donna seemed very concerned that perhaps I wasn’t ready.  She came and spent some time with me acting as a counselor might.  She asked me what had happened to me.  She allowed me to open up and share some things.  She told me that she felt like I needed more help.  She encouraged me to get additional therapy.  She also told me how I could get more help if I needed it, which proved to be very helpful.  She also did the most informative medication education groups every day.  She got us to really interact and talk.  Donna’s nursing and counseling skills were instrumental in helping me to get more help after I left the hospital.  She is a stellar nurse who is an asset to the unit.”

Ephraim McDowell is proud to recognize nurses with the DAISY Award, a national program that honors the compassionate care and clinical excellence that nurses bring to their patients every day.  Nomination forms for the DAISY Award are available at various locations throughout Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital, Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital and other Ephraim McDowell facilities.
