Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation is thrilled to extend an open invitation to the entire community for Happy Heart Day, an inclusive and comprehensive event taking place on February 23, 2024 as a part of Heart Health month. This unique gathering offers diverse options for participation, ensuring accessibility and engagement for everyone.
As part of our commitment to community health, we are introducing a special feature: the Health Hall – an area dedicated to promoting well-being through community engagement. The Health Hall, free of charge and with no ticket required, welcomes attendees to explore sponsor booths and offers complimentary health screenings including comprehensive heart and mental health screenings.
For those opting for a more immersive experience, tickets are available for the full-day conference, providing access to breakout sessions led by our healthcare providers, a live food demonstration from Chef Marc Therrin of the Keeneland Association, and engaging panel discussions moderated by Larry Weathers, CEO of Weathers Agency and heart attack survivor. Our breakout sessions will feature cardiologist Dr. Gbolahan Ogunbayo, Bariatric and General Surgeon Dr. Tin Tran, Thoracic Surgeon Dr. C. Wayne Holley, Jr., Endocrinologist Dr. Maryam Zia, Sleep Medicine Dr. Klark Turpen & Jennifer Daniel, APRN, and Psychiatrist Teresa McIlvoy, PMHNP. Breakout sessions will dive into major challenges facing our communities’ heart health including obesity, weight management, importance of lung screenings, diabetes, stress, depression, mental health, sleep, nutrition, and fitness. Ticket holders also will have the opportunity to take a free group fitness class at McDowell Wellness Center on Happy Heart Day.
“I am thrilled to bring this exciting event to rural Kentuckians. As a part of the data collected during our Community Needs Assessment, we know that heart health is a critical component to making our community healthier. Mental health, diabetes, and obesity are all leading contributors to the challenges our community is facing and they all affect the heart. This event will allow folks an educational opportunity to learn simple ways they can reduce their risk of heart related illness, network with health providers, and take advantage of screenings that could save their life,” said Executive Director of the Foundation, Laura Richard.
