Cancer Care at Ephraim McDowell

High-quality cancer care is offered at Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center. We treat all patients with care and compassion. We also provide support to family members.

Hematologists and oncologists lead the caring medical team. Pathologists, urologists, surgeons, nurses, and pharmacists are also on the care team. All are specially trained to care for cancer patients. They use proven technology to provide a full range of treatment options.

As a result of the expertise and training of our staff, we have earned accreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC). This is a program of the American College of Surgeons. It recognizes cancer care programs for their commitment to providing comprehensive, high-quality, and multi-disciplinary patient-centered care. This means you receive the best care close to home.

Our cancer care services

We treat cancer in a number of forms. Our services include medical oncology (chemotherapy) and radiation oncology (radiation therapy). Chemotherapy treatments have access to more than 50 different drugs. We also participate in clinical trials. As a result, you can expect to receive the best treatment for your cancer. Radiation therapy is delivered by a 23iX linear accelerator. Because it targets tumors, treatment is more precise and effective. This limits the volume of healthy tissue exposed to radiation.

We also have a PET/CT Scanner. The scanner finds cancer and tells your doctor what stage it is in. The scanner completes a total body scan in less than 20 minutes. The resulting image is three-dimensional. It is highly accurate. As a result, we can select the best treatment for you.

Our cancer center is easy to access. A large parking lot is available to patients. Handicap parking spaces are in the first row. Our waiting room is large but cozy and comfortable. Chemotherapy treatments are provided in a room with lots of windows. You can enjoy watching birds and nature while there. Snacks are available if you need something during your treatment. With the ease of access and entry, you will find the physical surroundings comfortable for you and your family.  Our patients can be assured of receiving safe, compassionate, high-quality, and cost-effective services.
