Our Pulmonary Rehabilitation program can help patients with chronic lung disease regain their quality of life. Services are provided at the Ephraim McDowell Heart & Vascular Institute in Danville. Cardiac Rehabilitation is also offered there as well as at Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital in Harrodsburg.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a medically-supervised program for patients who have a chronic lung disease or another condition that makes it hard to breathe and limits their activities. Anyone who has COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) or other lung conditions can benefit from the program.
Our program is customized, and every patient receives an individualized treatment plan. The program includes monitored exercise as well as education to help patients understand and manage their chronic lung condition.
Patients are referred to the program by their physician. We keep the physician informed on their progress throughout the program. It consists of 36 one-hour sessions each Tuesday and Thursday.
Benefits of Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Our Pulmonary Rehabilitation program will not cure a lung condition. However, participants may notice:
- Increased endurance
- Increased energy level
- Decreased shortness of breath
- Increased knowledge on how to manage pulmonary symptoms
- Decreased anxiety
- Increased confidence
- Improved quality of life
Most insurance plans cover the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program for patients with a qualifying chronic lung condition. Consult your primary care physician and/or pulmonologist to discuss a referral for pulmonary rehabilitation.
