Ephraim McDowell Health’s Home Health Services
Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy
Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy services are important to our patients. These services are provided by a licensed therapist or licensed therapy assistant under the direction of the therapist. Occupational therapists instruct patients in the areas of self-care. This can include grooming, dressing, bathing, and homemaking. They will also assist in adapting your home, so it is easier for you to function there. Home health physical therapists assess and treat conditions to improve physical functioning. Speech therapists assist with communication disorders. These can include eating/swallowing, aphasia, and other articulation/voice problems. Your therapist will provide details about the services and treatments you will receive.
Skilled Nursing
Trained RNs provide skilled nursing care in the home. They maintain contact with your physician to update your plan of care. We assess patient needs and provide skilled nursing procedures. In addition, we educate the patient, family members, and caregivers on disease processes, self-care techniques, and prevention strategies. We also supervise the coordination of patient care and services with your physician and other health care team members.
Home Health Aide
A registered nurse or licensed therapist supervises your home health aide services. Our aides have experience and training in providing care in the home. We can assign an aide on a part-time basis when you have a specific need for personal care at home. Typical duties include bathing, shampooing hair, and changing bed linens. It can also include assisting with other activities of daily living.
Supplies/Therapy
You may need medical supplies and therapy services as part of your home care. We coordinate securing the therapy services or medical supplies for our Medicare patients. If you arrange for these services or supplies on your own while under our plan of care, Medicare will not reimburse you or the other supplier. Because of that, please check with us before you purchase these items.
Durable Medical Equipment
You may also have a need for durable medical equipment. This can include a walker, wheelchair, hospital bed, etc. We can provide this equipment. It can also be provided by a Medicare-certified supplier that you choose.
