Lung Cancer Screening
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. Most lung cancer cases are caused by smoking. This region of Kentucky leads the nation in the incidence of lung cancer. As a result, we want to diagnose lung cancer early so it can be treated. One tool that helps us is a low-dose CT scan of the chest. It is recommended for those aged 50 to 80 who have been heavy smokers. Take a look at our brochure to see if you qualify, and then talk to your provider.
Specialized Care
Our thoracic surgeon brings lifesaving care to individuals with lung cancer. He offers general thoracic surgery. In addition, he provides thoracic surgical oncology services. He performs robotic-assisted lung resections. He is one of only a few thoracic surgeons in Kentucky who does the procedure. It is for the treatment of lung cancer. Dr. Holley uses the da Vinci surgical robot to remove the cancerous part of the lung. It is a minimally-invasive surgery. As a result, patients have less pain. They also have less risk for bleeding during surgery. In addition, there are fewer life-threatening risks with this type of surgery. Patients also have a reduced length of stay in the hospital. In addition, they enjoy a much quicker return to normal function.
Our pulmonologists perform highly-skilled procedures. Some can detect lung cancer before it advances. This includes advanced genomic testing of indeterminate lung nodules found by CT scan. It also includes Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy. It removes a portion of a tumor from inside the lung. As a result, the cancer is more treatable.
Our thoracic surgeon and pulmonologists offer advanced care. As a result, patients can stay close to home for the quality care they need. Early detection of lung issues benefits our patients. Because of that early detection, more treatment options are available to them. Thus, we improve patient outcomes. And that helps us to save lives.
