We provide inpatient pharmacy services at each of our three hospitals. As a result, we can meet the needs of our patients during their stay. We match patients with their correct medication using bar code scanning technology. This enhances patient safety. In addition, we have automated dispensing cabinets integrated with our medical information system for drug distribution to our patients. Our electronic medical information system uses technology that supports our prescribers and pharmacists in checking for allergies, drug interactions, and contraindications when entering prescription orders.
Retail Pharmacies
We offer two retail pharmacies in the community. One is the Outpatient Pharmacy located inside the Third Street Entrance at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. The other is Ephraim McDowell Bluegrass Drug Store located at 150 War Admiral, Suite 1 in Danville. Both are convenient options for handling all of your medication and medical support needs.
Besides filling your prescriptions, both pharmacies offer:
- Disposal for your old medications
- Vaccinations/Immunizations
- Over-the-counter medications
- Health and beauty aids

In addition, the Outpatient Pharmacy offers Naloxone rescue kits. Ephraim McDowell Bluegrass Drug Store also offers unit dose packaging for assisted living facilities.

If your health care provider has prescribed home infusion medications for you, we can assist with providing those medications. Home infusion medications will be delivered to your home by a home care delivery driver or a home care delivery representative. Our Home Infusion Pharmacy is located inside Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, located at 217 South Third Street in Danville. Patients can contact us by calling (859) 239-1765. To learn more about the services we can provide, please see our Home Infusion Pharmacy Patient Guide below.

If you are taking an anticoagulation medication (such as warfarin or Coumadin®), your doctor may refer you to our Anticoagulation Clinic. We offer a point of care testing (INR) during the visit and adjust the dose to reach the targeted INR.
Through the 340B Prescription Program, our retail pharmacies offer a reduced cash price on medications and subsequent refills for eligible patients who do not have prescription insurance benefits. You are eligible if you are seen at an Ephraim McDowell Health hospital or eligible clinic and are uninsured, have a high deductible insurance plan, have a gap in coverage for Medicare Part D (also known as the “donut hole”), or are prescribed a drug not covered by your insurance. No fees or enrollment is required.
Patients who have prescription insurance and opt to use our retail pharmacies or contracted 340B pharmacies pay their normal copays according to their insurance provider.
